After having a full
22 year military career
. I was ready to settle down at the location of my last posting in Edinburgh.
However my wife pointed out to me that she had followed me all around the
world for 18 years, now it is time for me to follow her. My wife's family
have lived in Liverpool/Merseyside for a long time, there is a lot of family
history. So in 1994 we moved to New Brighton.
People had told me stories of how,
in it's heyday, New Brighton was the premier holiday resort in the 50's
and 60's. Since I have lived here the pub talk has always been about the
good old days. I recently acquired a 1953 book called New Brighton
- Wallasey Holiday Handbook, of which many of the pictures are included in
this site (sorry for download times, I have tried to keep them short). Many
of the pictures illustrate what a wonderful holiday resort this must have
been, I only wish I'd had the opportunity to spend some time here in the
50's.
